                 UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

For service as set forth in the following

CITATION:

"For heroism while serving with Company H, Second Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division in the Republic of Vietnam.  On 10 October 1969, while swimming with a group ofMarines in the South China Sea near Quang Nam Province, Private First Class BROTHERS observed several fellow swimmers being carried out to sea by a strong current. He unhesitatingly swam out in the turbulent water to aid them.  Realizing the men were to exhausted to swim, he towed a panic-stricken man to safe water, quickly swam back to the second Marine and pulled him approximately 100 meters to shore.  Private First Class BROTHERS' bold courage, stamina and selfless devotion to duty at great personal risk saved the lives of two fellow Marines.  His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
