The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the
BRONZE STAR MEDAL to

                                CORPORAL JIMMY R. YARBROUGH

           UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

For service as set forth in the following

    CITATION

“For heroic achievement in connection with operations
against insurgent communist (Viet Cong) forces in the Republic of Vietnam while serving with Company A, First Engineer Battalion, First Marine Division. During Operation Jay, Corporal YARBROUGH was a member of an Engineer Support Team attached to Company G, 2nd Battalion, First Marines. On the morning of 26 June 1966 in an area northwest of Hue, the company came under intense enemy small arms, automatic weapons and mortar fire from an entrenched enemy force estimated to be of battalion size. In the ensuing fire fight, as the Marines advanced on enemy positions, they sustained numerous casualties. Observing a wounded Marine lying in an open field exposed to enemy fire, Corporal YARBROUGH unhesitatingly left his position with the command group and advanced under fire to assist the casualty. With complete disregard for his own safety, he aided and comforted the wounded man and provided effective covering fire while other Marines moved him to the evacuation area. Throughout the day, he constantly exposed himself to hostile fire to provide accurate covering fire for the evacuation teams. The following morning, Corporal YARBROUGH bravely moved across the field in full view of the enemy, disarming booby traps and mines implanted during the night. After the field was cleared, he assisted in removing the bodies of fallen Marines from the area, fearlessly approaching to within fifty meters of enemy positions. His steadfast determination and selfless concern for his fellow Marines inspired all who observed him and contributed significantly to the accomplishment of his unit's mission. Corporal YARBROUGH's resolute courage, bold initiative and unswerving devotion to duty at great personal risk were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.”

Corporal YARBROUGH is authorized to wear the Combat “V”
